Established in 1988, the School of Design and Fashion is one of the most well-known art and design schools in China with a complete range of design majors, a large teaching scale, and a high reputation. The school has a master's degree of Fine Arts and a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Industrial Design Engineering). And nine undergraduate majors, including industrial design, visual communication design, fashion design, animation, fashion design and engineering, environment art design, product design, photography, and performance. Among them, industrial design and visual communication design were selected as the national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, fashion design and animation were selected as the provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites.
The school has high-level platforms such as the provincial key experimental teaching demonstration center of art design, the first batch of provincial virtual teaching and research offices, and the provincial off-campus practice base. It has undertaken projects such as the National Social Science Fund for Arts, the National Art Fund, the first batch of new liberal arts research and reform practice of the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Education's humanities and social sciences. Facing the economic and social development of the Yangtze River Delta, it has explored and constructed a new mechanism for talent cultivation of interdisciplinary and collaborative education. Relying on the Sino-German cooperation platform of the university, it actively carried out cooperation in running schools and academic exchanges. It has carried out more than 20 years of teaching cooperation with universities in Germany, the United States, Italy and other countries, and established a multi-level and multi-type long-term exchange mechanism. It has achieved remarkable results in training applied innovative design talents with international vision, and won the second prize of Zhejiang Provincial Teaching Achievement Award.
With the goal of cultivating international application-oriented innovative creative design talents, the school has reformed practical teaching, highlighted the professional application characteristics of art design, focused on Zhejiang's clothing and textile, digital creativity, intelligent manufacturing and other industries, adhered to teaching reform and practice, and cultivated a large number of excellent students with professionalism, broad adaptability, strong innovative thinking and entrepreneurial ability. Graduates are fully recognized by the social industry. Students at school have won the iF Product Design Award, the Concept Design Award, the "Hanbo Award" International Gold Award, the Red Star Award, the Advertising Creative Competition Award, the Environmental Arts Academic Year Award, the Miss World Tourism and Culture China Champion, etc; Four alumni won the title of "China's Top Ten Fashion Designers"; An alumnus was selected into the "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" of Zhejiang Province; Entrepreneurship alumni have created brands and enterprises such as "Yanxu Clothing", "Time Coordinates", "GXG", "Suben", "Yigu", "Shefeng", "Nick Children's Clothing", "Longgong Cultural Creativity", "Zhuyun Workshop", and more alumni have served as brand design directors.
